Experience Hands-On Learning

Are you looking for an internship that can catapult your career? Learn hands-on as you collaborate along-side the world’s best cognitive systems design team. Working directly with your mentor, you will learn critical skills, expertise and how to be an effective engineer. Engage in weekly small group training sessions hosted by RCS’s President, Bill Elm, to further your understanding and support your ongoing quest for knowledge.

“I learned more in my first 2 weeks at RCS than in most of my semester-long courses.”

Challenging, Meaningful Work

As an RCS intern, you’ll learn first hand how to become a cognitive problem solver – the foundational skills of a world-class Cognitive Systems Engineer (CSE). You’ll gain the immediate benefits of “compressed learning” by working as part of a small, cutting edge team on projects that blend the art of Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Computer Science, and Data Science.

You’ll work on the design of information systems that enable advanced human decision-making in complex mission environments. You’ll prototype, test, and deploy real-world decision support systems that are cognitively resilient and comfortable for users. Who knows, maybe your fingerprints will be all over a new game-changing customer solution!

“I can’t imagine an internship with more hands-on experience or a friendlier group of people.”

Claude Corbett | University of Pittsburgh

“From my time at RCS, I’ve not only gained lots of CSE knowledge I wouldn’t get in my typical courses, but I’ve also learned invaluable project management skills and strategies that I can use for the rest of my career.”

Jesse Marquisee | The Ohio State University

“RCS has put together an incredible internship program. I was surprised by how well organized the program was. We had weekly lessons and a project that the interns worked on together. Not to mention starting on real, customer related, projects on day 1. RCS is a great place to work. It is challenging, but I have learned so much very quickly and my confidence as an engineer has increased significantly.”

Molly Burnett | Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University

“Early on in my experience at RCS, I felt that I was a valued member of a team who was working hard to make a difference. It was refreshing to be in an environment where my peers respected and trusted me enough to make important engineering decisions on my own. Professionally, I feel that I’ve been able to broaden my skill set and understand the process of producing worthwhile, innovative products that change lives.”

Shane Kelly | George Mason University

“With RCS, I was able to use years of cognitive science education to inform and improve upon the design of complex decision aids. The work itself was engaging, enriching, and challenging. I learned so much during my summer with RCS and I gained skills I will use the rest of my career. I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Hong-En Chen | Penn State University

“I dived into an existing project on day 1 and was able to learn and apply our methodology in parallel with training material. I learned more in my first 2 weeks at RCS than in most of my semester-long courses.”

Thomas Rasmussen | Carnegie Mellon University

“Working at RCS challenged my critical thinking and work ethic, improving both in the process. I can’t imagine an internship with more hands-on experience or a friendlier group of people.”

Meghan Faber | The Ohio State University

“I was treated like a real engineer the day I started my internship at RCS. I've gained real world experience in design, software, and cognitive systems engineering in a fast paced, hands-on and highly collaborative environment. It's challenging, but it's a lot of fun.”

Martin Bantchev | University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

“My first day at RCS I was promised that the work would be hard, and it definitely has been, but I am proud of everything that I did and everything I learned. My intern experience has been extremely fulfilling and deepened the way I approach problem solving in general.”
